Areola Aberrations | Treatment available

There are two recognized amorphisms of the areola

(a) Areola too capacious

It's undeniable that some women have big areola than normal. When you say broad it simply means it's unaccordant to the size of the nipple or simply means bigger than the usual.

To improve them, you will have to go through areola reduction procedure. The surgery will reduce areola's diameter. The subject will be injected with local anaesthetic. A desirable female breast is about 4.5 cm in diameter. However if the patient is full breasted , the areola will be reduced relative to the size of her nipple. A border of areola will be taken awayleaving only the proportioned skin.  The residual skin will be snagged to the new areola size and absorbable sutures will be used so they don't actually need to be replaced, unlike the regular way of binding skins through stitching.

However, you will have a scar around the outside ring of your areola, which is quiet evident. The pale scar around areola however, can be treated  with a medical-grade tattoo, which basically fills in the color of the scar to make it look natural. And you may further discuss that with your attending plastic/cosmetic surgeon.

(b) Puffiness of the Areola

Some women have a somewhat puffy areola. This is because of an extra sub adjacent breast tissue underneath the areola, pushing it forward that leads the areola to protrude. This is medically known as tuberous breast deformity.

To correct this condition, the tissue under the areola that is pushing the skin forward should be removed under local anaesthetics. You will need to make an opening around the nipple if it's puffy  with large sized areola  or a small opening at the base of the areola (at the junction of the brown areola and the skin) to remove the breast tissue if the areola is at it's normal size. This will set the areola tissue giving a much flatter appearance.

However, often times it can be combined with areola reduction surgery , if you have this lump of tissue under the areola, the lumpness may have pushed the areola to wide making the areola skin appear big after the removal of the tissue. Thus the areola reduction surgery maybe performed to make the areola proportioned to how big the nipple of the breast is. But if the areola is of it's normal size after the removal of the excess tissue underneath it, areoal reduction surgery is no longer needed.

The Advantages and Procedure Involved in Areola Reduction Surgery

Even though some girls have perfect breasts sizes and shapes, it does not excuse them from suffering the breast condition of having areolas that are distinctively large. In fact, those women with big busts are more prone to having them. Fortunately this breast problem can be simply treated via the cosmetic procedure areola reduction surgery which is known to bring successful and amazing results to many women.

Take a look at the following advantages one can get if ever she decides to undergo the areola reduction surgery process:

Visible and lasting change on the size of the enlarged areola
The option to undergo the surgery in either local or general anesthesia
Contract the skin on the breasts area so the nipples will look more lifted

Areola Reduction Surgery Procedure

So what takes place once your cosmetic doctor administer the surgery is that he will lift a spherical area from the outer part of the areola, then after that, stitch what’s left inside the center of the areola into the surrounding skin in a circular method.

The only downside of areola reduction surgery is the occurrence of scars after the procedure which is actually a normal aftermath on any type of surgery. These surgery marks are located in the brown or black area of the areola connected to the nearby lighter skin part of the breast tissue. Don’t worry much about these scars since they get healed fast and are typically found against the two various types of busts skin; therefore making them less evident.

However, certain types of people such as those with darker complexion may acquire a lumpier or keloid scar after getting the areola reduction procedure. This shows that scarring effects after the surgery varies from one person to another. Thus it’s essential to see your doctor and discuss this scarring issue before you undergo the treatment process for you areola. The other benefit of this consultation is that your plastic surgeon will know how to administer the areola reduction surgery in way that it will not give severe scarring.

Several Known Causes Why the Areola Expands

One of the many breast concerns that a lot of women encounter is having large areola, which is the brown part of the bust surrounding the nipple. This condition does not only look awful but can also lead to insecurities and distress to the person having it. It’s important for those women that have large areolas to know and understand what causes their breast problem to occur.

Take a look at the following reasons why some areola becomes bigger than their normal size:

  • Bigger breasts that also have large areola
  • It runs in the blood
  • Naturally born with big areola

Gaining weight on the chest or conceiving a baby can as well trigger the growth of a much bigger areola because of the enlarged breast tissues that will then stretch the size of the brownish area of the bust where the nipple is attached. Part of the body changes a woman undergoes during pregnancy is her breasts increasing in size and along comes with it is the enlargement of the areola too. On the other hand, gaining weight contributes to chest fats which increase the size of the bust and stretching of the areola.

A number of women reported that aside from the size, they also noticed a change in the colour of their areola as time goes by, which is usually the impact of the hormones inside the body. In addition to the colour alteration, tiny nodules are starting to appear too which is due to the main glands in the areola.

Sometimes, it’s hard to know what really causes the changes in the size and appearance of the areola. Still, it maybe because of the breast’s total growth or could be an abnormality in the shape of the breasts.

Don’t feel hopeless when you have large areolas because whatever the cause of their enlargement, the issue can still be solve through areola reduction surgery. This is a reliable cosmetic procedure that will bring excellent result when it comes to correcting the size of the areola.
